Project Troopy & My Best Mate

Overland Adventure NZ is both my personal blog and a registered business based here in New Zealand. It reflects my passion for remote travel, artistic expression, film photography, and living life fully despite challenges—especially after my own experience with a traumatic brain injury.

🐾 Dog Parking Hooks – Functional Art

Soon, I’ll be launching a line of artistic Dog Parking Hooks, designed to be installed at front doors or business counters. These handcrafted stainless steel hooks will feature TIG-welded metal artwork as the background—blending practicality with unique design. They’re perfect for dog owners needing a secure spot to hang their leash while freeing their hands to open the door, pay for coffee, or run errands.

Production will begin once I’ve completed my Toyota Land Cruiser Troop Carrier (Troopy) build, which is central to my overland travel and photography plans.

📸 Film Photography in Black & White

Len, Light Box, and Film

My creative focus is on black-and-white film photography, capturing remote and often overlooked corners of New Zealand. I shoot using a Nikon FM2n 35mm and a Toyo 45Aii 4×5 large format camera, often with a 6x9cm roll film back and 120 film.

These cameras accompany me and my assistant dog as we travel in the Troopy to wild and scenic locations. I hope to offer a different perspective from typical landscape photography—slower, more intentional, and deeply connected to place.

🚙 Overland Travel & Life on the Road

At the Start line cycling south

Before Overland Adventure NZ, I spent years:

• Driving and leading overland expeditions across North Africa and Europe,

• Helping to build custom overland trucks for companies in the UK,

• Exploring remote parts of Scandinavia, the Alps, and the Sahara,

• Living a life on the road—adventure, dust, stories, and all.

These experiences are part of the blog too, shared through photographs and travel stories from a life lived in motion.

🧠 Living with a Brain Injury

After my brain injury, I’ve had to adapt how I move through the world. Whether it’s stopping for a nap after a hike or finding small routines that help me manage energy and focus, I’ve learned a lot. I share tips, insights, and encouragement here for others going through similar experiences—because life doesn’t stop after injury. It just changes, and you can still make it beautiful.
